DESCRIPTION:

Martha's Vineyard in winter is something else: Highest unemployment in the State; lowest median income and one of the lowest per capita incomes in the State; 1 out of 5 families below poverty level; 1 out of 4 families affected by drug or alcohol abuse; 509 single-parent families -- the highest ratio in the State -- many in poverty; 2,395 youth, 6-18 years of age.

This organization was founded in 1937 as a Boys' Club in Edgartown. In 1977 a new facility was built as the Martha's Vineyard Boys and Girls Club. It is the only full-time professionally supervised youth facility on the Island.

Six days every week, 100-150 youths use its gymnasium. The floor needs replacement. It will cost $50,000. Will you help?
