Centastage was founded in 1991 as a performance group dedicated to the production of new works by Boston area playwrights. In its first six seasons, Centastage presented 26 new plays, including 5 musicals. Several productions have appeared in the Top 10 lists of local critrics and/or gone on to other runs.

Now in its 13th season, Centastage is still going strong, producing fully-staged new plays, staged readings, performance pieces, and works-in-progress -- i.e., rehearsed readings followed by discussions between the playwright, the director, another playwright, and the audience. One production annually is dedicated to "Boston Women on Top," a festival of one- and two-women performance pieces. Its "Write On!" program consists of follow-up workshops for playwrights whose works have been produced by Centastage. All Boston performances take place at the Boston Center for the Arts.

So by the miracle of philanthropy, here is an opportunity for anyone in the Commonwealth -- you, for example -- to become a patron of cutting-edge dramatic arts in Boston.
