Dynamy
Dynamy was established in 1969 to build leadership capabilities in young men and women through worksite internships, challenging outdoors experiences, and community service. Its original program, "Internship Year," provides students from across the country with an extra year "in the real world" before going on to college; students can receive college credit for the experience from Clark University by taking a seminar. In 1989 Dynamy created the John S. Laws Institute, a four-year after-school program for low-income, at-risk, high-school students, to reduce high-school dropout rates and promote college attendance.
"Leadership Exploration At Dynamy" (LEAD) is a national 3-week residential summer program for high-school junior and senior girls from diverse backgrounds, to encourage, support, and guide their development toward responsible adulthood. It begins with an outdoor adventure camping experience, and progresses to the Dynamy residential building in Worcester. By day the students accompany professionals in a variety of settings, and in the evenings they participate in seminars, community service, leadership-development activities, and recreation.
LEAD staff are highly qualified professionals. The Program is financed by tuition, which now amounts to $1,825 per student. To maintain the diversity of participants that is essential to the Program's success, LEAD needs to increase its scholarship support.
