Family-to-Family Project CONTACT:14 Beacon Street, Suite 202 Boston, MA 02108 617.624.3837 www.ftfp.orgScott Smith, Executive Director
DESCRIPTION:Working collaboratively with more than 20 multiservice agencies and shelters around the state, the Family-to-Family Project tries to reach homeless families and those at risk of homelessness, and assist them in becoming stabilized in permanent housing. FTF was founded in 1988 by 12 families in the Greater Boston area who wanted to show some neighbors who were becoming homeless that they were not forgotten. The Project helps homeless families assess their short- and long-term needs, and provides grants to meet immediate emergencies such as first and last months' rent, security deposits, basic furniture, medical expenses and moving costs, and even expenses related to job training and higher education, self-empowerment programs and parenting skills classes.
Since it was founded, the Project has helped more than 7,500 families. Membership has increased from the original dozen families to more than 1,000 individuals, foundations, corporations and religious congregations. In collaboration with other agencies, Family-to-Family helps over 300 families each year. More than 90 percent of the families assisted by the Project remain in stable housing. Would your family like to help? (1998: HUMAN SERVICES: Well-Being)
