Greenwood Music Camp CONTACT:P.O. Box 1045 Easthampton, MA 01027 413-323-1053 greenwoodmusiccamp.orgAmy B. Nee, Development
DESCRIPTION:Greenwood is not just another music camp -- it is the one Itzhak Perlman and Yo Yo Ma send their children to, and its graduates include Gil Kalish and Joel Krosnick of the Julliard String Quartet, Robert Freeman, President of the New England Conservatory, and Lucy Shelton, guest soloist for major symphony orchestras. Founded in 1933 in Cummington, Greenwood has given more than 2,000 youngsters unforgettable summers making friends and music of the highest quality. Its interactive program model has been replicated by hundreds of summer music camps across the country. While chamber, small orchestra, and choral music are the central activities at camp, maintenance chores, communal meals, country living, sports and recreation are essential parts of the Greenwood experience.
Greenwood's philosophy is that chamber music requires sharing, communication and close collaboration, which are fostered by the Camp's supportive, family-like community.
The Camp needs some major structural repairs and enhancements to accommodate audiences at weekly performances. This is your chance to be a patron of a small but major arts institution. (1998: CULTURE: Education: Formal: School-Related)
