DESCRIPTION:Mobius is an artist-run center founded in 1977 to promote experimental work in all media--installations, group exhibitions, performance, sound, dance, film, video, and multi-media. It responds to needs of artists working outside the mainstream, and needs of audiences hungry for art that reflects contemporary issues, is challenging intellectually, and stimulating emotionally and aesthetically.
Mobius aims to present avant-garde art by local artists, in an educational context that helps make them accessible. Mobius also encourages audience participation in the creative process. It has presented works of 1,000 artists in hundreds of events. Currently it offers more than 30 events, 44 weeks a year, featuring exhibitions, installations and performances, as well as educational programs: an in-depth newsletter, gallery talks, post-performance discussions, and programs for city children at schools and social agencies.
Art spaces have come and gone in Boston--Mobius works hard and is the longest survivor. The Boston Phoenix wrote, "If there were no Mobius, it would become necessary to invent one, to fill the need for a local avant-garde." If this is your cup of tea, let Mobius know it.
