DESCRIPTION:The Wellness Community's mission is to help people with cancer fight for their recovery by providing free psychological and emotional support, as a supplement to medical treatment by physicians. Research has shown that cancer patients who participate in their fight for recovery along with their health care team, improve the quality of their lives and increase their chances of recovery.
TWC-Greater Boston opened in 1993. Since then over 4,600 people from 171 communities have participated in its programs. Wellness's aim is to provide training in stress management, in how to use hopeful words and to decrease feelings of isolation and loss of control. A wide variety of support and networking groups are offered by The Wellness Community in a warm, homelike environment. All of TWC's programs and services are offered free of charge; no reimbursement is received from insurance companies, health care organizations or the government; philanthropy, especially the support of generous donors, is needed to keep it running.
