DESCRIPTION:Since 1981, Wellspring House has alleviated the poverty of many children and their mothers by changing the conditions conducive to their poverty--helping them to obtain homes, more education, jobs, and stable family life in a safe environment. Like almost all small, cost-effective, human service agencies, WH needs to grow to meet the demand for its services.
Its Foundations Program is a 26-week education curriculum that prepares low-income women for jobs that pay a living wage. Over 25 graduates either work at jobs or college programs they never imagined they could do. The Empowering Youth Project trains community volunteers to help diagnose and treat children who are suffering from trauma such as of the death or illness of a parent, violence, homelessness or parental substance abuse. The Cape Ann Sustainable Community Project encourages citizens of diverse backgrounds to recognize their interdependence and to work together in community decision-making for their common good. All three programs need to grow, and for that they need your help. (1998: HUMAN SERVICES: Well-Being)
