Assisted Living Center
ACLI was founded in 1994 to create affordable assisted living residences for frail, low-income senior citizens. Its Salisbury facility was the first, and still is the only, 100% affordable such facility in Massachusetts - i.e., all its residents are Medicaid/MassHealth eligible, and its rates are the lowest in the Commonwealth. It is fully occupied and has a waiting list of one year. All residents of the Center enjoy private rooms and private baths, as well as full care services. The problem is that income does not cover expenses; deferred maintenance, acquiring conveniences that only experience can teach are necessary for older people, and wanting to provide more than a bare-bones budget will allow, are problems. Fundraising has been difficult because the elderly are not a favored population in philanthropy these days, and this is an organization without a supporting membership. Catalogue readers: Why not give them a call and see if you can help? For quality of life, remember.
