DESCRIPTION:The great idea here, implemented at a very high level of excellence, is to use photography and computer communications intensively as self-developing tools -- to enable inner-city youth and senior citizens to sharpen, refine, objectify, document, and share their own perceptions about life as they know it directly, and as they discover it in new places. BPC was founded in 1991 with "Project Image," a summer program training inner-city teens to be photojournalists. In 1993 it was incorporated and the next year added two new programs: "Teen Images," a year-round, teen-run photo business, and a "Senior Program" of classes leading to photo-based presentations. In 1997 it launched a Neighborhood Technology Center, which uses computers to extend and enhance the photography curriculum. Since its founding BPC has served hundreds of teens and over 1,000 seniors, whose work has appeared in exhibits at the State House, Boston City Hall, Harvard University and the Boston Public Library. If photography is an interest of yours, here is a charity for you to help grow and develop. (1999: HUMAN SERVICES: Children and Youth: General)
