Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro West
Here is a shining example of what incredibly rich programming a small community can provide for children and youth in its area. Founded in 1968 as a Girls' Club of Hudson, it now serves over 750 girls and boys, from infancy through adolescence, in Hudson and surrounding communities. Its purpose is to "provide quality programs in a family atmosphere..., [to] develop skills, values and learning experiences that will be carried into adult life". Its AfterSchool Program offers 40 courses at a variety of sites -- in pottery, karate, ceramics, piano lessons, cooking, woodworking, model-building et al. Its PreSchool Program involves parents with their children in creative play, arts and crafts, cooking and "funnercise." School Vacation Programs and a full range of summer "camp" programs for youths ages 6-16, include all the above activities plus unique extras like deep sea fishing! Preschoolers can attend "Camp Little Sprout" in mornings and portions of weeks, with an extended-day experience for older campers, ages 5-6. What the Center needs is help with scholarship funds. Their policy is to provide financial aid for every one who needs it, but (to no one's surprise) demand exceeds supply.
