Arts organizations are a key factor in community revitalization, for both economic and quality of life reasons. TheatreZone is a Chelsea-based company that is leading the creation of a new performing arts center in downtown Chelsea's historic 1906 Post Office, which was built on the site of the old Academy of Music, where Sarah Bernhardt once performed. The building was acquired in 1999 with the help of the City of Chelsea and Historic Massachusetts (Catalogue, 1997). TheatreZone was founded in 1995, and is in its own right artistically excellent. It runs a youth program called the Chelsea Youth Theatre, which offers classes in acting, dance and the visual arts, and it produces plays. Each summer, TheatreZone offers a bilingual (English and Spanish) summer production in the park, one of its most successful programs. To raise funds, it holds a bienniel art auction. So here is a "renaissance" already in progress, in which you can play a part as patron. How many opportunities like this come your way?
