Community Boating
Talk about quality of life! Founded in 1938, Community Boating moved in 1941 to its current location on the banks of the Charles, between the Hatch Shell and Longfellow Bridge. It was incorporated as an educational charity in 1946, to provide the people of Boston with a low-cost, high-quality sailing program. Its mission and motto is "Sailing for All," for which it strives by minimizing economic and physical obstacles to sailing. Sailing is here seen educationally, as developing independence and self-confidence, better communication skills, and enriched community spirit. Its sailing, kayaking and windsurfing programs target youth, and they attract more than 6,000 participants from in and around the Greater Boston area. As soon as members are sufficiently skilled, they are all expected to help teach sailing to relative novices and apprentices. Programs are priced to sell: $1.00 for children ages 10-18, with scholarships and discounts available. Instruction runs the gamut, from beginning through advanced sailing and racing; amenities include harbor trips, volunteer opportunities and social events. Here you can make a difference and have great fun doing it.
