Greyhound Friends
Animals need quality of life, too, and if their owners will not look out for them, only philanthropy will. Most greyhounds racing at tracks in the U.S. are "put down" when they can no longer win. Greyhound Friends was founded in 1983 to find homes for the hounds after they are retired from racing. It has saved nearly 7,000 greyhounds by placing them in good and caring homes. GF maintains an adoption kennel for 20 greyhounds in Hopkinton, and works with four affiliated adoption centers on Cape Cod, in the Berkshires, in New Jersey, and North Carolina. In 1998, about 350 greyhounds were adopted from GF's Hopkinton Kennel and 100 others were sent to the affiliated adoption sites. GF can afford to be so productive only because many volunteers help with all the work, including follow-up phone calls to the new families, to ensure that any questions and problems which might arise are addressed. This is a critical time for Greyhound Friends to receive funding - it wishes to buy the land on Saddle Hill Road in Hopkinton, where its adoption kennel is located. Funds are also needed to support veterinarian care, kennel staff, transportation, advertising, dog food and other supplies. Would you consider strategic support?
