DESCRIPTION:The Improbable Players is a first-rate theatre company founded in 1984 to address tough social issues as they relate to substance abuse through performances and interactive drama workshops for schools, colleges, and community groups. Each year over 40,000 youth and others experience powerful presentations followed by Q&A and lively group discussions. Students do not tune out these presentations the way they often do lectures or texts, in part because the Players themselves are all young men and women in recovery, and at the end of each play they step out of their roles to tell their own riveting stories. The experience is unforgettable, as it must be to be effective. The philanthropic challenge is that many schools, especially those needing it most, do not have funds for these programs that cost $1,600. Donors of that amount may, if they wish, designate a recipient school. Donations are welcome and very much needed. (1999: CULTURE: Education: Formal: School-Related)
