Created in 1979, MRT has established itself not just as the only professional equity company in the Lowell-Merrimack Valley region, but as one of the leading theatre companies in Massachusetts. Its successful dedication to education, professional training and development of playwrights, actors, directors and designers, and its creation of new work -- it has now produced close to 150 productions, including 13 world premieres and 29 regional premieres -- has attracted an annual audience now approaching 70,000, including over 8,000 students and 4,700 subscribers. MRT's artistic director is Charles Towers, whose mission is to advance the American theatre through the production of new works. MRT strives to offer its productions at affordable prices to the community, hosting a variety of discount programs, including Community Nights, Pay What you Can Nights, and ticket subsidies for students, seniors, schools, and season subscribers. MRT is a theatre company with a vision, and you are here invited to help bring that vision to life.
