Rockport Chamber Music Festival CONTACT:P.O. Box 312 Rockport, MA 01966 978-546-7391 www.rcmf.orgElizabeth Redmond, General Manager
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by Rockport's rich artistic heritage and spectacular seaside setting, the Festival was founded in 1981 by two artists and a local businessman, "to create an outstanding chamber music series in one of the nation's oldest and most vital art colonies" — a retreat for Winslow Homer, Harrison Cady and Childe Hassam, among others. Twenty-three seasons later, RCMF is a brilliant gem of high-quality classical music, a four-week summer festival of 16 highly varied classical solo and chamber music presentations by leading and emerging artists and ensembles. Its audience comes from across the country and world; nearly 200 volunteers help keep its budget manageable. Since 1995 its Artistic Director has been David Deveau, an accomplished pianist who has performed with major symphonies and string ensembles. To attract new audiences, especially young people, to the pleasures of chamber music, the Festival sponsors lectures, symposia, and its annual Free Family Concerts, interactive musical presentations by Festival musicians.
