DESCRIPTION:Shakespeare & Company was founded in 1978 by a group of professional artists led by Tina Packer, and dedicated to excellence in training, performance and education. Over the past 25 years it has gained a national reputation and received many awards—especially for its Education Program (at least Shakespeare's place in the curriculum is still strong), which reaches more than 40,000 students annually. The National Endowment for the Humanities regularly supports its Summer Institute for secondary school teachers from all over the country, cited by the MacArthur Foundation, the GE Fund, and the President's Council on the Arts and Humanities as a "Champion of Change." The core of the Program is artist residencies and teacher workshops which have generated many insights into teaching Shakespeare to today's youth. The Company would like now to increase its efforts in eastern Massachusetts by retaining an administrator to develop and coordinate this special part of the program. You can help make this happen.
