DESCRIPTION:The Beverly Bootstraps Food Pantry teaches people to fish, so they can feedthemselves for life.
The First Baptist Church in Beverly started the food pantry in the mid-1980s as a small outreach program. It was incorporated in 1994 with a mission to eliminate hunger and its root causes in the Beverly community. In 2000, BBFP recorded 2,722 visits and distributed nearly $82,000 worth of food. It distributed $65,433 worth of clothing, and its outreach office served 251 households.
Its outreach programs include an adult literacy program, weekly job-skills sessions and crisis intervention. All programs are free to Beverly residents in need and are designed to help them build self-sufficiency.
It could not operate without charitable contributions and dedicated volunteers. Pleased consider how you might help BBFP continue its work. (2001: HUMAN SERVICES: Well-Being)
