DESCRIPTION:The Boston History Collaborative (BHC, est. 1997) is a unique attempt to connect Boston's hundreds of historical organizations, sites, and museums, to create a new model of historical tourism that will present our uniquely rich American history in compelling high quality, enhancing economic development as well. Special philanthropy is needed to crank-up the whole enterprise.
The Freedom Trail is the leading example. It has been notably successful in attracting visitors to Boston, by connecting the many sites related to the city's pivotal role in the American Revolution. BHC would replicate and extend that success by connecting to it other aspects of our region's uniquely rich national historical endowment as other principal attractions for visitors and residents alike.
BHC has launched several highly-successful collaborative projects over the years: "Boston By Sea," "The Literary Trail of Greater Boston," "Innovation Odyssey: Boston Break-throughs that Changed the World," and the "Family and Immigrant History Project." All are designed to employ theatrical performance and technology in a new model of "living history" that's both fascinating and fun. Each project over a 10-year period, in ways that will achieve market viability within five years. Take one on. (2001: CULTURE: Education: Informal: Historic Preservation)
