DESCRIPTION:

Founded in 1993 by young philanthropists, EcoLogic has several distinct missions: a) to increase American philanthropic donations/investments in rural Latin America; b) to help U.S. donors accomplish more by their philanthropic investments there; and c) to connect environmental and social justice philanthropy there, by identifying and investing in grassroots organizations that most closely reflect local community values, rather than outside agendas.

Since its founding, EcoLogic has: supported projects that preserve 1.6 million acres of biodiverse habitats; provided natural resource management training to over 4,000 people in more than 500 rural villages; supplied over $10 million in credit to farming cooperatives; and, in conjunction with 43 agencies in 11 countries, promoted environmentally-friendly livelihoods for the poor.

International philanthropy is both much lower in cost, and much more difficult to do well, than domestic philanthropy. If you are interested in helping conserve the biological diversity of Latin America through community-led initiatives, EcoLogic can help you. They do the research and the legwork for donors, and they have gained invaluable experience doing so.
