DESCRIPTION:Provincetown's Fine Arts Work Center is a national institution, recognized as one of the leading artists and writers colonies in the country. Founded in 1968 by a group of prominent artists, writers, and patrons, the Center's Fellowship Program for Emerging Writers and Artists each year attracts 1,000 applicants for seven-month winter residencies (housing, studio space, modest stipend) for complete concentration on artistic production. Most of the 700 Fellows to date have gone on to greater successes and both professional and public recognition, awards and honors. To help support itself financially, the Center also offers a 10-week Summer Workshop Program (more than 800 students annually) and a six-week session of weekend courses in creative writing and visual arts in the fall. Artists regularly contribute to the community through public presentations, guest appearances at local schools, and classes.
In September 2005, FAWC entered a collaborative relationship with MassCollege of Art to operate a "low residency" Master of Fine Arts degree program in Visual Arts, the only program of its kind on Cape Cod. The Center has now undertaken a $2.5 million capital campaign for renovation and expansion of its historic facilities, and provide for an endowment. This is an opportunity for you to be a patron of the highest levels of excellence in the arts. (2001: CULTURE: Arts: Visual, Literary and Crafts)
