DESCRIPTION:When the City of Lynn developed a downtown revitalization plan in the early 1990s, planners identified the need for an organization that could serve the community's artistic and cultural needs with a broad range of programs, services and resources. LynnArts Inc. has fulfilled this role. The organization owns and runs the LynnArts & Cultural Center, the focal point of the city's Arts and Cultural District.
The Center has three galleries, studio space, offices and a black-box theatre. In addition to its two professional galleries, in 2005 the Hartman Leigh Gallery was built to focus exclusively on exhibiting the youth artwork. In 2004, demand for artisan workspace exceeded available space, so LynnArts developed 12 additional studio spaces in a city owned building. Based on a grant written by LynnArts, the City has begun work to complete its designated arts district with a landscaped parking lot that will serve as a continuation of the Heritage State Park Visitors Center and connect LynnArts to the Lynn Museum and Historical Society. Working with the City, LynnArts hosts an annual Arts Festival downtown; and in partnership with local businesses, it hosts live entertainment on the third Thursday of each month in Lynn’s Central Square. LynnArts is a pivotal part of the city's revitalization. Help them realize their goals. (2001: CULTURE: Arts: Community)
