DESCRIPTION:The New England Legal Foundation (NELF) does its work, not in classrooms or training centers, but in boardrooms and courtrooms. Its purpose is to promote public discourse on the proper role of free enterprise in our society and to advance free enterprise principles in the courtroom. Its approach is nonpartisan, guided simply by the belief that a free society needs a free market to maximize individual potential and to provide freedom from want for the greatest possible number.
As a litigant, NELF takes on precedent-setting cases involving business, financial or economic issues, usually relating to government regulation, property rights, taxation and employment law. Its lawyers also represent individuals who have exhausted their funds in cases that will have a wide impact on individual rights. In recent years, NELF has increasingly turned to emerging issues of social importance in electronic commerce and biotechnology — it is currently conducting a two-year project to formulate a model code to regulate courts' jurisdiction in the age of the Internet and websites.
NELF charges no fees for its services; it depends on support from businesses, foundations and individuals. They invite your support. (2001: HUMAN SERVICES: Well-Being)
