DESCRIPTION:Save the Harbor/Save the Bay, created in 1986 as a citizens' voice, watchdog, technical advisor and general facilitator, has received numerous awards for having played crucial and sometimes leading roles in the Boston Harbor cleanup, working effectively with government agencies, corporations, and many other philanthropic organizations. To consolidate these gains and protect the public's capital investment, SHSB followed through in 1999 with a "Campaign for the Water's Edge," designed to create long-term vested interests in the restoration by helping Shore and Island communities renew and in many cases create diversified uses of and around the sea. And more recently, collaborating with 24 environmental, community, business, and recreation groups, in 2006 they helped save the Boston Harbor Islands National Park by preventing the nation’s largest Liquid Natural Gas terminal/depot from being sited on Outer Brewster Island. If you care about our Harbor and Bay, here is an opportunity to maintain them in their improved state, in perpetuity. (2001: NATURE: Environment: Land, Air, Water, Climate)
