DESCRIPTION:Each year The Walker Center (TWC) partners with diverse religious communities to draw hundreds of groups and individuals to its 3-acre Auburndale campus in Newton, in a unique approach to contemporary cross-cultural understanding. In 2001, it provided housing for 35 international seminary students and their families from 12 countries, while they attended Boston-area seminaries. It has also provided temporary housing for international delegations from developing countries, and about 1,700 nights of low-cost or free accommodations for clergy and church members attending events in the area.
TWC maintains a Mission Resource Center and its own library, to provide information about volunteer opportunities in over 200 locations near and far. It organizes events around cross-cultural understanding, conflict resolution, and hands-on mission work. TWC takes an active approach to mission work as well. In partnership with Boston-area churches, it supports a boarding house, scholarships, a medical clinic and a nutrition clinic in rural Honduras villages. (2001: HUMAN SERVICES: Well-Being)
