Cambridge Performance Project
CPP's after-school program provides dance, theater, and music classes that reflect
the multicultural nature of the Cambridge community. Students come from every
race, ethnicity, economic background, neighborhood, and school in Cambridge: CPP
has never turned a child away because of lack of funds. Teachers are
professionals in their fields, class size is small, and instructors return year
after year as important adult mentors. Semester-long courses in everything from
hip hop to Scottish step dance, storytelling to mime, set design to video,
include field trips, visits by guest artists (musicians, choreographers, stage
combat teachers) and performance opportunities at the end of the term. Begun in
1985 to enrich the cultural life of the people of Cambridge, CPP's collaborations
with the city's Department of Social Services and Community Schools program mean
that classes are held in school buildings and are easily accessible to all. More
than 300 children a year in over 30 classes in 10 schools get safe, active choices
after school--and an introduction to the lifelong joys of the arts. Won't you
support this winning combination?
