DESCRIPTION:

The Family Center is a licensed mental health clinic that for over 20 years has served families at risk with therapeutic and support services. In 2001, it helped more than 650 families in its clinic, and 1,500 families in schools. Recognized for its excellence, TFC has trained more than 800 human service providers throughout New York and New England. Its philosophy is that families have to be their own healers, and that therapists are only guides in that process. One of its outstanding programs is "The Parenting Journey," an intensive 12-week workshop where parents come to understand the influences of their own personal histories on their roles as parents; in 2001, 100 parents took the course, but more significantly, TFC has trained more than 600 parent educators from over 200 family agencies in the Northeast to use the program. TFC also trains 200 home visitors statewide every year.
