Massachusetts Recycling Coalition
Recycling is an essential part of any comprehensive strategy to reduce
"greenhouse" gases. Reducing waste slows global warming, conserves
natural resources, saves energy and prevents pollution. MassRecycle,
founded in 1989, is a statewide coalition of organizations and
individuals committed to the environmental, social and economic
benefits of reducing and recycling waste materials and increasing the
use of recycled products. MassRecycle is a leader in the recycling
community, a resource for over 500 members and a provider of
educational programs. In the year 2000, recycling efforts in the state
reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 14%; 22 trillion BTUs of energy
were saved--enough to power 120, 000 homes for a year; water pollution was reduced by more than 9,000 tons, and acid rain-forming air pollution by more than 88,000 tons; 49% of Massachusetts homes
recycled. This is a gradual process and it is hard work; you can help.
