DESCRIPTION:"With Integrity She Heals" is the motto of W.I.S.H. House -- created in
1992 to provide housing and support services to women and their
children living with HIV/AIDS. Led by a multi-cultural team of women,
W.I.S.H. House has helped nearly 90 women -- up to five women and six
children at any one time -- who come from homeless shelters, hospitals
or the streets, many of whom speak English only with great difficulty.
These are some of the neediest of the needy.
State funding cuts have hit them hard. Their $180,000 2001 budget has
been cut by 80%, to $36,000. They were trying to raise money to
complete a renovation of three apartments which they had fitted with
new bathrooms and kitchens. They had planned to provide one apartment
with full handicapped access, outfit a resource center with computers
and training, and create a food pantry where residents and
neighborhood friends could gather and their children could play. These
folks need your help. (2002: HUMAN SERVICES: Girls and Women: General)
