Biomedical Science Careers Program
BSCP was founded in 1991 to address at least two issues: the under-representation of racial and ethnic
minorities in the biomedical sciences and related fields, and the resulting inadequacies of health care delivery
within those populations. These are matters of both justice and practicality, reflecting unequal rights and
opportunities, as well as depriving our society of much-needed talent, which causes all sorts of costly
problems. BSCP was intended and designed not only to smooth the way for Blacks, Hispanics and Native
Americans into the biomedical professions, but proactively to identify promising talent as early as middle
school, to provide encouragement and practical support not just along the way through high school, college,
and graduate school, but within the professions themselves once they had arrived. In thirteen years, this
excellent program has helped over 4,250 students -- opening their eyes to broader horizons and higher
achievement, providing growth opportunities, promoting them in myriad ways with schools, colleges,
universities, corporations and professional associations, and continuously providing counseling and moral
support. This program not only saves, it makes personally and socially beneficial lives. You can, too.
