Cape Cod Theatre Project
The Cape Cod Theatre Project in Falmouth is a small gem of a theatre company. Founded in 1995, it is the only
professional theatre on the Upper Cape, and has a distinctive mission: to present staged readings of new American
plays for workshop purposes. Each July the Project brings together 3-4 authors and their plays-in-progress, with
directors and actors -- often directly from Broadway -- who help to refine and hone the works, devoting a week to
each play, rehearsing them for 20 hours and presenting them on three successive nights, inviting audience feedback
after each performance. They have presented 27 plays to date, of which half have gone on to further production.
This could not be done without strong community-volunteer support. Over 50 local volunteers provide housing
for the artists; a local private school provides the home base for the office, rehearsal space and most of the
performances; and the actors and directors work for below-scale wages. There is even an internship program for
4-6 older teenagers each season, to gain experience in all aspects of stagecraft. "This is truly an organization where
everyone works together for the greater good because we believe in the future of American theater and the people
and the communities that it serves.” Here is your opportunity also to help support that greater good.
