Composers Conference and Chamber Music Center at Wellesley College
The Composers Conference provides a real service to young composers combining an
admirable mix of professional performers and amateur listeners. Housed at Wellesley
College for two weeks each summer, the CC encourages the composition and performance
of new music by supporting young composers and allowing audiences of all ages and
backgrounds the opportunity to interact directly with the composers.
Now in its 61st season, 10 emerging composer Fellows are selected each summer to
study with two senior guest composers and Pulitzer-prize winner Mario Davidovsky.
Over the two-week period, each Fellow’s piece receives a public performance and a
professional recording, directed by Maestro Efrain Guigui. Performing staff of 25
virtuoso instrumentalists and vocalists represent such music groups as Orpheus,
Speculum Musiscae and Collage New Music, and guest composers in the past have
included names such as Milton Babbitt, Elliot Carter, George Crumb, Donald Martino
and many others. If the growth and proliferation of contemporary music makes your
heart sing, this organization is for you.
