Duxbury Bay Maritime School
When it began in 1998, Duxbury Bay Maritime School had 60 boats, 50
adults and 350 students, and aimed to be “the best community maritime
school in the country.” US Sailing was impressed -- in that year citing DBMS
as its “Outstanding New Program,” and in 2002 Boston Globe South gave it
a “Best School Award,” noting especially its four-year growth to 1,500
students. Year-round programs include sailing, racing, seamanship, rowing,
navigation, boat building, marine ecology, and maritime history. Its campus
has grown with land acquisition and new construction, including a residential
building. Collaborations with the New England Aquarium, Duxbury High
School, and a variety of special schools have broadened its activities and
appeal; its ACCESSAIL program for students of all ages and abilities has
earned designation as a training site for the Special Olympics. Its Maritime
Adventures program gives inner-city kids a whole new world to conquer. So
many and excellent special programs depend on scholarship funds and general
philanthropic support. In developing a love and appreciation of the sea in people of all ages, the school needs your support. If you love sailing and the sea, please share those
pleasures and rewards by your investment.
