DESCRIPTION:ESC was founded in 1982, to link retired
executives as volunteer consultants to
charities seeking affordable management
assistance. Since then it has assisted 1300
organizations of all types and sizes
throughout New England. Today is it
stronger than ever -- 200 volunteers, many
not yet retired, who contribute an average
of 100 hours a year; they have been
carefully identified and interviewed (only
1 in 6 applicants is accepted into the
program), then trained in the latest issues
and “best practices” of philanthropic sector
management. They assist over 100 charities
each year, 40% of whom are returning
satisfied clients, 79% of whom have
budgets below $1 million. Each year ESC
offers a day-long Management Conference
providing workshops and presentations in
a broad range of subjects; in 2003, it
attracted more than 400 attendees from over 200
charities. That’s productivity! Give them a
call if you or your corporation are interested
in donating or volunteering. (2003: PROMOTING PHILANTHROPY: Charities Helping Charities)
