The two integrated parts of Gaining Ground’s mission are to grow food and grow community. Located in Concord, this organization grows fresh, organic produce for hunger relief with the help of hundreds of community volunteers. To date, they have donated more than 170,000 pounds of nutritious vegetables and fruit to meal programs, shelters and pantries; they have expanded the land they farm (from one acre to over 10); increased the number of food assistance programs they serve; established roots in the Concord community and extended outreach throughout the Boston area. Gaining Ground’s produce is distributed to 11 non-profit organizations, each serving up to 100 families per day, and its volunteer force contributed over 3,000 hours of assistance by more than 1,300 individuals in the last year alone.
