Hostelling International - American Youth Hostels Eastern NE Council

Originally conceived in Germany in the early 1900’s, American Youth Hostels began 70 years ago in Western Massachusetts, to provide recreational opportunities for young people. Today, Eastern New England Council (ENEC) of Hostelling International has a mission to “help all, especially the young, gain a greater understanding of the world and its people through hostelling.” ENEC provides travel accommodations and educational programs through its six MA sites: 2 in Boston, 1 each in Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, Eastham and Truro.

Hostels may be best known for their low cost accommodations, but they are much more. ENEC’s new program, “Opening Doors, Opening Minds,” creates structured opportunities for youth groups to travel to other communities and expand their awareness of the world. This special education program includes travel, coupled with 2 days of hands- on educational experiences to promote the values of intercultural exchange, humanitarianism, community service and responsible travel. Donations are needed to provide scholarships to those organizations that cannot afford to participate. Please help.
