DESCRIPTION:All of us care about peace and justice around the world. But we often don’t know
what we can do. The Karuna Center for Peacebuilding knows what to do and does it
well. Founded in 1993, its mission is to promote dialogue, reconciliation,
cooperative problem solving and non-violent solutions to conflict in troubled and
war-torn regions. The Karuna Center works by invitation and in partnership with in-
country, non-governmental organizations, community groups and educational and
religious institutions to design and deliver training and workshops in conflict
transformation that builds trust and communication between conflicting groups;
mentored participants then become peacebuilding agents in their own communities.
Karuna Center has conducted peacebuilding workshops with educators and youth in the
Balkans, NGO leaders in Sri Lanka, Israeli and Palestinian peacebuilders, and groups
in Armenia, Burma, Rwanda and Uganda. Its budget has more than doubled in the last
two years, as it expands its services due to increasing number of international
requests. Let peace begin at home, and let it begin with you.
