Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce
The Marlboro Regional Chamber of Commerce Foundation is not like a typical chamber of
commerce. Sure, it promotes, develops and sponsors, and assists in the betterment of
the local business community. But it has plans for much more. Last year, after
being asked countless times to serve or suggest someone to serve on a non-profit’s
board, two of the chamber’s employees realized that what was needed was a resource
that could match the area’s business management and employees eager to volunteer with
small charities who needed capable and enthusiastic Board members. This is where the
chamber stepped up to the plate by developing an “Institute for Board Development.”
The goals are simple: to identify and recruit individuals, to provide training and
expertise about the roles and responsibilities of serving on a Board, and to place
these trained individuals with non-profit organizations as Board members. The goal
for the first year (2003-2004) is to identify, train and place 10 individuals with
charities. If the idea of businesses helping charities grow appeals to you, let them
know.
