DESCRIPTION:Envision strolling past the foliage in rustic Pioneer Valley, and then attending the
nationally recognized Eliot Norton Award-winning performance of Catherine Samie in La
Derniere Lettre. Imagine walking into a college classroom, and watching Vanessa
Redgrave conduct a master class. The Massachusetts International Festival for the
Arts is making this, and much more, possible. Since its inception ten years ago, MIFA
has dedicated itself to presenting the finest examples of contemporary practice in
opera, music, dance, film and visual arts from around the world to communities in
Western Massachusetts -- a vital contribution to an area far from major cities. To
date, MIFA has presented 134 events and showcased 277 international artists including
organizations from Africa, Cuba, Russia, England, Ireland, France, The Netherlands,
South Africa Turkey and Germany. The critics and the public rave! Yet despite its
accomplishments, MIFA’s 3-person staff lacks the funds to build a sustainable
organizational structure. It now has developed a 3-year business plan, but needs
support to meet the plan objectives, which include operational, financial,
fundraising and marketing components. An organization that can produce such exciting
performances deserves a chance to build an equally dynamic internal organization. Your support can make a big difference in the growth of this terrific organization. (2003: CULTURE: Arts: Community)
