DESCRIPTION:Weve all experienced hunger at one time or another. The difference for most of us, however, is the options that we have to respond to our needs. Unfortunately, a growing number of us dont have these choices. Enter the Worcester County Food Bank, which has collected and distributed more than 52 million pounds of donated food and grocery product since 1982 and has helped to feed over 85,000 women, men and children throughout Central Massachusetts. The Food Bank runs three programs: Nutrition Education Program, which features workshops and nutrition training; the Second Serving Program, a food rescue program that collects food from local supermarkets, bakeries, restaurants, and farms and delivers it to local shelters and meal programs; and the Community Kitchen Program, which is the home of A Fare Start, a food preparation and culinary arts job training program. The Food Bank is an elegant and simple idea that is worthy of your support. (2003: HUMAN SERVICES: Well-Being)
