GIVING MASSACHUSETTS DAY

Remember Giving Massachusetts Day
the day after Thanksgiving—November 25, 2005

GIVE THANKS BY GIVING.

Charitable giving is mostly seasonal; more charities are in closer touch with more donors during their “annual appeals” in the year-end holiday season than at any other time of year. This is potentially a great occasion: the subject is quality of life for all our citizens, through everyone’s private initiatives.Yet the number of people who respond, and the levels of their responses, leave much to be desired. The purpose of Giving Massachusetts Day is to fortify this opportunity, by focusing on it at a time when families are already together for the Thanksgiving holiday, and gratefully mindful of the blessings of their own lives. Just as in the 20th century, families all over America learned to reach for the telephone to call their mothers on Mother’s Day, so also in the 21st century, families will, we hope, learn to log onto the Internet on the day after Thanksgiving to “Give Thanks by Giving.”
