DESCRIPTION:The Greater Boston dance scene these days is, well, jumping in both institutional and artistic development. One leading indicator is The Dance Alliance—a new umbrella organization for the entire dance community. Founded in 1985 as Boston Dance Alliance, it provides administrative and development expertise to help small-to-mid-sized dance companies share resources, reach larger audiences, and function together as a cultural community. In the last three years TDA has been reborn under new leadership and an ambitious strategic plan for the future. TDA now has more than 200 institutional and individual members—63% with budgets below $50,000 It has published two editions of its Dance Directory, created a website, developed a comprehensive group health insurance program, and sponsored professional-development workshops. TDA's very existence raises its members’ sights beyond the next performance and creates a whole new range of strategic and collaborative opportunities. Its plan envisions increasing its marketing powers and services, and to implement that plan it now needs to hire an Executive Director. If you care about dance in Greater Boston, here is a way for you to make a highly-leveraged philanthropic investment in the entire field. (2004: CULTURE: Arts: Performing: Music and Dance)
