Camp Starfish

Camp Starfish children lead difficult lives — over 85% come from abusive backgrounds, 60% live below the poverty line, and they struggle with learning, behavioral, and emotional problems that challenge achievement of any kind. But Starfish was created for them, by Debra Berman in 2000. It has a unique one-to-one staff-to-camper ratio, and for the first time in their conscious lives, these children feel that they are in an environment focused on promoting their success. Already Starfish has provided a summer respite for hundreds of campers and their families; their needs are met, and they have fun. Last year, in response to growing demand for its services, Starfish developed a five-year strategic plan to expand and to create a permanent facility. They are so good at what they do that the Putnam Senior Executives Foundation awarded Starfish a $350,000 grant to purchase 85 acres in Townsend, Massachusetts. Now they need additional capital funds to build on their facility and to develop two new year-round programs: Starfish Teen Weekends, and Starfish Family Weekends. This is a capital campaign that needs new friends to succeed. Will you be one of them?
