Hope for the Children of Haiti CONTACT:21 Cummings Park, Suite 278 Woburn, MA 01801 781.937.8338 www.hfchaiti.orgGerald Walle, Chairman of the Board
DESCRIPTION:HFC, founded in 1989, runs an orphanage for 59 children, and since 1996, a school for 200 children, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti — one of the worst places in our hemisphere. The school is excellent; it has a 100% pass rate on the standard national exam, whereas the norm for Haitian schools is 50%. The need for its services far exceeds its capacity, and is increasing; deep poverty, HIV-AIDS, child slavery, and natural disasters, have left many children homeless and school-less. Political turmoil has made everything worse — many missionary teams have left the country and supply lines have been severely disrupted. The school and orphanage are operated entirely by dedicated Haitians—the Managing Director, Dr. Jacob Bernard, is a Haitian-born American citizen. All funds received go directly to the school and the children. But quarters are cramped and more children must be rescued, so HFC has purchased land in Bon Repos, the city’s northern section, and is working with volunteer Boston architects and engineers to design an orphanage and school to double their current capacity. To build this new facility will require new donors and capital donations. Wouldn’t you like to be one of those who help build this haven of hope for children in a desperate land?
