Bruce Lucier, Executive Director

DESCRIPTION:

Disabled by a car accident when he was 21, Bruce Lucier has made it his mission to help kids with disabilities; in the winter of 1994, he started a specialized basketball program that served as the the basis for K.I.D.S. Inc., which he formed in 1999 and expanded to include adults with disabilities. K.I.D.S. offers 13 sports programs — including karate, track and field, baseball, golf, soccer, bowling, swimming and basketball — and hosts sports banquets, dances and outings to sporting events and amusement parks. The goal here is to help build confidence and self-esteem, and enable the participants to develop long-lasting relationships. All the programs are run by volunteers, and they are seeing great success: membership is growing by 22 percent each year. Now K.I.D.S. wants to build a one-of-its-kind facility for children and adults with disabilities. Here’s your chance to participate in their growth.
