DESCRIPTION:From the Top originated in the late ‘90s as a weekly radio program showcasing 9-18 year-old classical music performers and composers. Today FTT is a public charity (est. 2003), and the program is carried by more than 250 stations and heard by more than 650,000 listeners every week. It is Public Radio International’s most widely carried classical music program, and one of the top 5 weekly hour-long shows on public radio. Its purpose is to present accomplished young musicians as role models for their peers, like star athletes. It develops and presents school-based curricula in partnership with the New England Conservatory, Young Audiences, McGraw-Hill, the Education Development Center, and the Music Educators National Conference. Its website features (are you ready?): recordings of all its broadcasts, extended interviews with guest artists, profiles of young performers and professionals, tips and advice from leading music teachers, performers, and music industry professionals, as well as information on music camps, music teachers, and youth orchestras, and music activities and education materials for parents and teachers. This is a great niche to be developed, and these folks are doing it with distinction. This is your opportunity to be a different kind of patron of the arts.
