New Repertory Theatre
The New Repertory Theater (est. 1984, and first featured in the Catalogue in 1998) offers an intriguing example of excellence in professional theatre — emphasizing artistic and technical accomplishment, professional training in all aspects of theatrical production, and outreach to schools and adults for the educational and cultural benefits that close contact with artistic excellence can provide. New Rep presents both contemporary and classical works as well as readings and full-scale productions of new works by playwrights like Suzan-Lori Parks, Michael Weller, Bryony Lavery and Thomas Gibbons. In December 2004, New Rep joined the National New Play Network, an alliance of theaters that champions the development, production and continued life of new plays for American Theater. In September 2005, New Rep became the professional theater company-in-residence at the new Arsenal Center for the Arts in Watertown, increasing its capacity from 150 to 340 seats. As the Boston Globe put it, New Rep is “no longer a small theater on steroids, but a legitimate midsize theater.” The growth is based on quality: in its last two seasons New Rep has won four Elliot Norton, and nine Independent Reviewers of New England Awards. They are currently raising funds to strengthen infrastructure, and develop and serve an audience in the new communities surrounding the building. Here is an opportunity for you to support a great organization providing world-class theater. Please consider a generous gift.
