DESCRIPTION:

The commercial success of Robert Redford’s Sundance Film Festival has moved independent (“indie”) filmmaking onto the big screen of American popular movie culture, but most people may not be aware that indie films have long been, and still are, mainly philanthropic rather than commercial. CID was founded in 1981 to be an innovator in media on public issues. Basically they help filmmakers do everything that attends the actual filmmaking — from fundraising advice, fiscal sponsorship, fiscal management, marketing, distribution advice, etc. They do all this while restricting their own overhead expenditures to 2%. As the leading catalyst and facilitator for our Massachusetts indie film industry, they have assisted more than 200 documentaries, which have won almost every major television and film award, including Emmys, Peabodies, and honors from Sundance. They are a Massachusetts Cultural Council Commonwealth Award recipient as an Outstanding Cultural Organization in Massachusetts. If you agree with them that “Documentaries have a unique power to inform, to enlighten, and to motivate viewers,” you will enjoy supporting that philanthropic power by investing in CID.
