Prometheus Dance (founded 1987) bestows and promotes a love for dance by creating original, high-quality choreography and performances, in collaboration with composers and designers, that inspire audiences and raise social issues. Their ensemble, which includes 10 professional dancers and a unique elders performing group, has thrice been named one of the year’s 10 Best in Dance (Boston Globe ‘00, Boston Herald ‘02, Boston Phoenix '04), and they have been produced locally by the Celebrity Series, Opera Boston (Cat’98), Crash Arts, Dance Umbrella, the Massachusetts Cultural Council, First Night, the Boston Center for the Arts, and Boston Conservatory, among many others. They also perform regionally (New York and throughout New England), nationally and internationally (in Europe and Latin America every year since 1994). Their programs of socially relevant, engaging, life-affirming dance for schools, senior centers, and social organizations have reached thousands of children and adults outside normal dance audiences.
